What everyone REALLY wants to know:

Attorney Baker is a non-traditional attorney. She doesn't have a bunch of law books surrounding her office or other stereotypical lawyer things. When you meet with her, while not in court, she will appear as any other person (she always appears in professional attire for court appearances). She believes that it's important to be comfortable and relaxed while discussing difficult topics. Do not feel the need to dress in your Sunday best either. Come as you are.

Divorce/Family Law - LASALLE COUNTY, IL only

You'll set up a meeting with Attorney Baker, and you'll tell her about your case. Everyone wants to know how much their case is going to cost them. It will cost you money to hire a professional, it always does. Your fee will be a flat fee, or a retainer which is money (you give us that we hold in Trust) until earned on an hourly rate, or a combination of both.

- Estimate fee for uneventful uncontested divorces (no kids): ~$1500.00

- Est. fee for uncontested divorces/family cases (with kids): ~$2500.00

- Consultation fee (flat fee): $80

- Hourly Rate (billed at 1/10th of an hour): $250 for contested / Other matters

New Policy of KQBLaw: If you have a contested case with children, or mediation will likely be attended, there will be a $500 additional cost included in the initial payment to cover the mediation cost, which I will pay directly to the mediator.

*note* Above estimates DO NOT include the filing fees that go to the Court, or additional fees for having someone served, or subpoenas, etc.

If you're not ready, but want to start preparing: get a calendar/agenda book and start keeping track of significant events, or do your best to record prior events, especially with children. Dates, times, places, etc. Find and organize financial documents. Don't throw away bank, credit card or utility statements, pay stubs, etc.

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

There is no consultation fee for bankruptcy cases.

The first step in filing for bankruptcy is to determine whether you're eligible to file for bankruptcy, and if you really want to file (bankruptcy has some consequences, good and bad). After the initial consultation, Attorney Baker will send you home with a couple forms, and a list of documents she needs you to bring back to her when you're ready to get moving.

Average (single person) Flat Fee Chapter 7 Bankruptcy: ~$1350

Total cost with Filing Fees: ~ $1688

Average (married) Flat Fee Chapter 7 Bankruptcy: ~$1750

Total cost with Filing Fees: ~$2088

Fees include a Financial Report to catch any unknown debts on credit reports

If you want to start preparing: Collect and save your bank statements, pay stubs, utility statements, all mail from creditors, lawyers, collection agencies. Stop throwing away information you receive from creditors.
